Job summary

Carpenters Group seeks a Paralegal Apprentice to support our Serious & Catastrophic Injury team. You will assist claims handlers with legal tasks and administrative duties, gaining exposure to a wide range of practice areas while studying the Level 3 CILEX Paralegal Apprenticeship.

Throughout the 18-month apprenticeship, you will learn to prepare cases for litigation, conduct basic legal research, and work closely with solicitors and managers to develop on‑the‑job skills, with internal training

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two A-Levels and five GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English and Mathematics.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise tasks according to urgency.

Responsibilities

  • Deal with correspondence with clients, medical agencies, experts, insurers and other parties via email and phone.
  • Produce, edit and draft legal documentation and standard forms.
  • Handle confidential information in line with data security protocol.
  • Assist claim handlers with progression and completion of client files.
  • Carry out basic and supervised legal research.
  • Use MS packages to produce reports and statistics.

Job Purpose

As a Paralegal Apprentice within our Serious & Catastrophic Injury team, you will play an important role in supporting claims handlers by providing both legal and administrative assistance. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of legal practices. You will work closely with experienced solicitors, paralegals, and managers, learning to handle legal matters and gradually taking on more complex tasks. Throughout the 18-month apprenticeship, you will develop the skills needed to prepare cases for litigation and navigate the litigation process.

You will complete the Level 3 CILEX Paralegal Apprenticeship qualification whilst also developing the “on-the-job” skills required to build the foundations of a successful career.

In addition to the tuition provided by the training provider, you will also receive training from the internal training team to ensure that your skills are kept up to date.

You will learn about:

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Dealing with correspondence with clients, medical agencies, experts, third party insurers and any other relevant parties via email and telephone
  • Producing, editing and drafting legal documentation and standard forms
  • Handling confidential and sensitive information in line with data security protocol
  • Drafting general correspondence and initial drafting of instructions
  • Using MS packages to produce reports and statistics
  • Data entry into the case management system and maintaining document filing systems
  • Assisting claim handlers with the progression and completion of client files
  • Carrying out basic and supervised legal research
  • Understanding and utilising basic financial information
  • Making and receiving telphone calls
  • Any other administrative tasks, as required
Experience & Knowledge
  • Minimum of two A-Levels, and Five GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English and Mathematics (or equivalent)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a general willingness to learn
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise tasks according to urgency
  • Strong written and verbal skills and able to communicate with colleagues at all levels, clients and third parties in-person, via email and telephone
  • Ability to communicate appropriately, be patient and to express empathy towards clients who may have experienced serious injuries
  • Ability to get along with others and work well as part of a team
  • Good listening skills
  • A commitment to developing a career in Law

this role involves reviewing evidence and documentation relating to serious injury claims, including photographs, CCTV, dashcam and video footage, medical records and police reports. Some content may contain graphic images or descriptions of serious or fatal injuries.
