Job summary

Rossendale Hospice is seeking a Palliative Support Worker to provide care in patients' homes within the Rossendale community, delivering practical nursing support and emotional encouragement under Registered Nurses. The role involves travel and working partly independently, with a focus on comfort and dignity.

The position is 30 hours per week with 5 days availability, offering enhanced pay for unsocial hours and weekend coverage; DBS check is required and a UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous healthcare experience (essential) ideally with life-limiting conditions.
• NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Visit patients within the Rossendale community, sometimes working alone, to provide practical and basic nursing care and emotional support under the direction of Registered Nurses.
• Contribute to comfort, dignity and independence for patients in their own homes.

About the Role

Caring for someone in the final weeks and months of life is both challenging and rewarding. Our Hospice at Home service promotes comfort, dignity, and independence, enabling people to remain in their own homes. As a Palliative Support Worker, you will visit patients within the Rossendale community, sometimes working alone, to provide practical and basic nursing care and emotional support under the direction of Registered Nurses.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous healthcare experience (essential), ideally with life-limiting conditions.
• NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent*.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Reliable, proactive, and passionate about delivering high standards of care.
• Full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and business insurance.
• Mileage is paid at 55p per mile. Employment is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
• Staff are salaried and paid monthly, with no deduction in pay if no patient visit.

Hours: 30 hours per week (5 days) - roles include alternate weekends

Additional hours are available covering absence on a regular basis

Pay: £12.71

Current enhancement pay:

• After 9pm & Saturdays: £16.28 per hour
• Sundays & Bank Holidays: £20.35 per hour

Annual Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays (pro rata)
