Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain seeks a Palliative Medicine Consultant to join the Oncology directorate, supporting Specialist Palliative Care and Enhanced Supportive Care on two sites with a colleague. The role centres on clinical care, on-call coverage and shared leadership of governance, audits and research.

GMC registration and entry on the Specialist Register (or CCT within six months) are required. A future rotation into lead clinician may be arranged through job planning.

Qualifications

• MRCP (UK) or equivalent required.
• GMC registration and licence to practise required.
• Experience in leading or participating in clinical governance, audits and research advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-standard clinical care under own responsibility.
• Hold full clinical responsibility with delegated supervision.
• Clinically manage patients needing palliative and enhanced supportive care across the Trust.
• Take part in clinical and service development and governance activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues and contribute to strategic direction.
• Share leadership of clinical governance and attend governance half-days.
• Contribute to clinical governance programmes and departmental audits.
• Participate in clinical trials and research to keep practice evidence-based.
• Prepare business cases for new therapies for approval.
• Represent colleagues at Trust committees and communicate with partners.

Education
