Job summary

Sovereign Network Group is seeking a Damp & Mould Specialist Decorator in the UK to deliver professional remediation in occupied homes. You will perform mould washing, treatment and decorative works, ensuring safe, high-quality finishes and adherence to health and safety standards.

Essentially, you will work with surveyors and housing teams to resolve damp issues, maintain records, and support customer wellbeing under Awaab’s Law guidelines.

Qualifications

• Proven painting and decorating experience.
• Experience carrying out damp and mould treatment/remediation works.
• Experience using mould treatment, fungicidal and anti-fungal products safely.
• Ability to repair plaster and prepare surfaces for decoration.
• Strong understanding of damp, mould, condensation and ventilation issues in homes.
• Ability to identify causes of damp and know when escalation is required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mould washing, sanitisation and treatment in customers' homes.
• Use approved products (Pura, fungicidal washes, anti-microbial treatments) safely.
• Remove mould contamination from walls, ceilings, woodwork and surfaces.
• Apply stain-blocking products prior to decoration.
• Complete mould‑resistant painting and decorating after treatment.
• Undertake reinstatement works after repairs by other trades.
• Do minor plaster repairs and surface prep for high-quality finishes.
• Ensure treated areas are clean, safe and ready for occupation.
• Identify signs/causes of damp and condensation; escalate when needed.
• Provide feedback to surveyors on treatment outcomes and recurring issues.

As part of our response to Awaab’s Law, we are expanding our Damp & Mould team and are seeking a skilled and customer-focused Damp & Mould Specialist Decorator to help us improve the living conditions of our customers and protect their health and wellbeing.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference by delivering specialist damp and mould remediation works, restoring homes to a high standard and helping to prevent recurring issues. Working closely with Damp & Mould Surveyors, Property Inspectors, Housing Teams and trade colleagues, you will play a key role in ensuring damp and mould cases are resolved quickly, effectively and safely.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• As a Damp & Mould Specialist Decorator, your responsibilities will include:


• Carrying out mould washing, sanitisation and treatment programmes within customers’ homes.


• Using approved products such as Pura, fungicidal washes and anti-microbial treatments in accordance with safe systems of work.


• Removing mould contamination from walls, ceilings, woodwork and other affected surfaces.


• Applying specialist stain-blocking products, including Zinsser, prior to decoration.


• Completing mould-resistant painting and decorating works following treatment.


• Undertaking reinstatement works after repairs carried out by other trades.


• Carrying out minor plaster repairs and surface preparation to ensure a high-quality finish.


• Ensuring all treated areas are left clean, safe and ready for occupation.

Diagnosis and Prevention

• Identifying signs and causes of damp, mould and condensation.


• Recognising issues relating to ventilation, lifestyle factors and building defects.


• Escalating concerns where specialist investigation or intervention is required.


• Providing feedback to Damp & Mould Surveyors regarding treatment outcomes and recurring issues.


• Supporting the reduction of repeat damp and mould cases through proactive identification of root causes.

Customer Service

• Delivering an excellent customer experience at every stage of the process.


• Treating customers with dignity, respect and empathy, recognising the impact damp and mould can have on health and wellbeing.


• Clearly explaining the work being carried out and expected timescales.


• Keeping customers informed throughout the duration of works.


• Identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns, vulnerabilities or health risks encountered during visits.

Compliance, Quality and Safety

• Working in accordance with SNG’s Health & Safety Policies and Safe Systems of Work.


• Completing dynamic risk assessments before commencing work.


• Ensuring compliance with Awaab’s Law, HHSRS requirements and company procedures.


• Following COSHH requirements and using PPE, specialist equipment and hazardous substances safely.


• Working safely in environments where asbestos-containing materials may be present and adhering to relevant procedures.


• Capturing photographic evidence before, during and after works.


• Maintaining accurate records, job notes and evidence trails using company systems.


• Reporting any property condition that could present an immediate risk to customers, colleagues or contractors.


• Promoting SNG’s "Everyone Safe and Well" culture at all times.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Proven experience in painting and decorating.


• Experience carrying out damp and mould treatment and remediation works.


• Experience using mould treatment, fungicidal and anti-fungal products safely and effectively.


• Ability to repair plaster and prepare surfaces for decoration.


• Strong understanding of damp, mould, condensation and ventilation issues within residential properties.


• Ability to identify likely causes of damp and mould and know when escalation is required.


• Excellent customer service and communication skills.


• Experience working within occupied homes.


• Ability to maintain accurate records, photographs and supporting evidence.


• Good understanding of health and safety practices, including COSHH and risk assessments.


• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Painting and Decorating.


• Experience working within social housing.


• Knowledge and understanding of Awaab’s Law.


• Experience using mobile working technology and repairs management systems.


• Understanding of ventilation systems and building defects associated with damp and mould.


• Asbestos Awareness training or experience working safely in environments where asbestos may be present.
