Interaction Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Paint Sprayer Manager to lead the paint shop within a busy structural steel fabrication environment. You will manage the spraying team, ensure high-quality finishes, and uphold safety standards on all projects.

The role offers hands-on leadership, progression to management, and responsibilities across production planning, quality control, and teamwork with fabrication colleagues.

Qualifications

• Experience in industrial paint spraying, preferably within structural steel fabrication.
• Previous supervisory or management experience is highly desirable.
• Good knowledge of steel preparation, abrasive blasting and protective coating systems.
• Experience using airless or conventional spray equipment.
• Knowledge of paint specifications, dry film thickness and coating inspection.
• Ability to read and understand job specifications and coating requirements.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• COSHH and health & safety awareness.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and hands‑on Paint Sprayer Manager to lead our paint spraying and protective coating operations within a busy structural steel fabrication environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the paint shop, coordinating the spraying team, maintaining high-quality finishing standards, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced paint sprayer or supervisor who is ready to take the next step into a management role.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the structural steel paint shop.
• Lead, supervise and coordinate a team of paint sprayers and preparation operatives.
• Plan and prioritise work to meet production and project deadlines.
• Ensure structural steel is correctly prepared prior to coating.
• Oversee the application of primers, intermediate coats and topcoats in accordance with project specifications.
• Ensure correct paint systems, film thicknesses and application methods are followed.
• Monitor quality throughout the preparation and spraying process.
• Carry out inspections and address any defects or rework requirements.Maintain accurate records of paint usage, batch numbers, inspections and completed work.
• Work closely with fabrication, production, project management and site teams.
• Ensure COSHH, PPE, health & safety and environmental requirements are fully adhered to.
• Maintain paint shop equipment, spray guns, compressors and associated machinery.
• Monitor stock levels and liaise with suppliers when materials are required.
• Train and develop members of the paint shop team.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and working practices.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• Proven experience in industrial paint spraying, preferably within structural steel fabrication.
• Previous supervisory or management experience is highly desirable.
• Good knowledge of steel preparation, abrasive blasting and protective coating systems.
• Experience using airless or conventional spray equipment.
• Knowledge of paint specifications, dry film thickness and coating inspection.
• Ability to read and understand job specifications and coating requirements.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• A good understanding of workplace health & safety and COSHH requirements.
• The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• A practical, hands‑on approach to managing a team.

Desirable Experience

Experience with structural steelwork and recognised coating standards such as ISO 12944, EN 1090 or NORSOK would be advantageous.

Relevant paint/coating inspection qualifications such as ICorr, NACE/AMPP or equivalent would also be beneficial, although not essential.
