Job summary

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join the Paediatric High Dependency Unit. You will help deliver high-quality, patient-centred care for children with complex conditions requiring enhanced observation and respiratory support.

The role involves monitoring, escalation of concerns, assisting with sleep studies and long-term ventilation, and supporting families in a busy paediatric HDU environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the nursing team in delivering high standards of safe and effective patient care.
• Accurately record physiological observations including heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturations, blood pressure, temperature and PEWS.
• Recognise changes in a child’s condition and promptly escalate to registered nursing staff.
• Assist in monitoring children undergoing overnight sleep studies and those requiring long-term ventilation, ensuring safety and comfort.
• Support the safe use, monitoring and maintenance of respiratory and monitoring equipment within the clinical area.
• Deliver personal care and assist with activities of daily living while promoting dignity and independence.
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to children, families and carers throughout hospital stays.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to the safe delivery of delegated clinical skills and competencies within the HCSW scope.
• Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised environment adhering to infection prevention policies.
• Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in a busy paediatric high dependency setting.
