Due to a promotion, we are looking for a new band 6 Paediatric Specialist Dietitian.
This is a part time post of 24 hours where the post holder can choose to spread the hours across 3 or 4 days.
The post is based in the Paediatric Dietetic team at Royal Blackburn Hospital but covers the localities of East Lancashire.
The post holder would be expected to cover the Cystic Fibrosis, step down neonatal babies and general paediatric clinic caseload. Experience in these areas would be desirable but not essential as training can be given. We are looking for a Dietitian with beneficial transferable skills.
The post holder would be expected to be part of the Cystic Fibrosis MDT where care is shared with Royal Manchester Children's hospital. This is an evolving service as changes in treatment for Cystic Fibrosis are changing the Dietetic needs of our patients.
The post holder would also be expected to support our neonatal Dietitian with babies that are discharged home where they still require ongoing tube feeding or additional oral nutritional support.
The post holder would also cover general Paediatric clinics across East Lancashire localities enabling to develop or keep skills in general paediatrics.
The post holder would be expected to clinically supervise band 5 Rotational Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants.
They would also be expected to support the Paediatric team leaders to continually develop and evolve the Paediatric Dietetic team/ service as well as developing Paediatric Dietetics guidance, training and policies as required for the Trust.
The successful post holder will be part Paediatric team based at Royal Blackburn Hospital The team consists of two Clinical Lead Dietitians , six Specialist Dietitians each with their own specialist clinical area, two Band 5 rotational Dietitians, one Dietetic Assistant Practitioners and two Dietetic assistants . There is also a dedicated clinical support worker team supporting admin tasks.
The team use the EMIS electronic record system for outpatients and have moved to cerner for inpatient records and some out Consultant led outpatients. There is is good access to IT equipment
The team engages in regular clinical supervision and learning
The Paediatric team is a part of the wider Dietetic Department at East Lancashire. The Department is known for its innovation and has over 70 staff of which 45 are Dietitians and is well supported with Dietetic Assistants, Assistant Practitioners and admin staff. The department is involved in clinical pathway developments, audit, continuous professional development and student training.
There will be an induction period where competencies will be identified and appropriate training plan agreed.
We will accept applications from Dietitians who do not have Paediatric experience as long as they have suitable previous clinical experience for the post and transferable Dietetic skills.
The department offers all three Dietetic student training placements as well as Dietitian Apprenticeship training. The post holder will be expected to be involved in clinical teaching and assessment of Dietetic students on their placement so therefore previous student training experience is desirable. As we are a teaching hospital the post holder would also be expected to support medical, nursing and other health profession students as well.
East Lancashire has good transport links to Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and beyond and we are close to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
The post holder would be expected to work across the sites and localities of East Lancashire so the post would suit a car driver/owner.
