Responsibilities

• Act as a clinical leader and role model, anticipating needs and supporting junior staff.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care for a designated group of children and their families.
• Work as a proactive member of the multi-disciplinary team and advocate for the child and family.
• Support information-giving and the sensitive breaking of difficult news with medical colleagues.
• Coordinate safe internal transfers, admissions and discharges to promote seamless care.
• Line-manage a small team of nurses, including appraisals and peer support.
• Mentor and precept students and new staff, contributing to the unit's teaching programme.
• Lead on unit initiatives, quality assurance and agreed service changes.
