Qualifications

Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering a high-quality paediatric audiology service.
- Perform otoscopy and high-quality hearing assessments in children as part of the service.
- Contribute to personalised (re)habilitation programmes for hearing-impaired children and young people.
- Evaluate audiological treatment programmes and report outcomes to the multidisciplinary team.
- Fit, verify and evaluate NHS digital hearing aids with follow-up and repairs.
- Provide hearing aid technical support/repairs for paediatric users.
- Take ear impressions for young patients under supervision as required.
- Assist with administrative aspects of the Ear Mould Service and maintain records.
- Support in updating working practices and participate in training and supervision.

We are offering a fixed term Band 5 Paediatric Audiologist post within our expanding Paediatric Audiology Service. Our team specialises in a whole-child approach to audiological care, delivering services in community settings across a large geographical area of Lancashire. Our Consultant Audiovestibular Physician leads clinical work and contributes to national APD research, giving you opportunities to develop specialist clinical skills.
We are a small, friendly, but busy multidisciplinary team who fully embrace our Trust vision of Excellent Care with Compassion.
You will assist in the delivery of a high quality Paediatric Audiology Service aimed at maintaining national standards for clinical and professional excellence. The post holder will perform a broad range of complex and non-routine tasks to assist the diagnosis and habilitation of hearing and balance disorders in babies, children and young adults. You will be expected to work with indirect supervision and use your initiative at all times.
In addition to holding a BSc (Hons) in Audiology or an equivalent qualification and registration with an appropriate professional body (AHCS), you will have a minimum of one year's post-qualification experience working within an Audiology service. You will need to be an organised team player who cares about delivering a high-quality service, enjoys a varied role, is a great communicator, and brings plenty of energy.

As a Band 5 Paediatric Audiologist, you will:
- Assist the Consultant Audiological Physician and senior grades of staff in tertiary level evaluation of hearing disorders in young adults,childrenand babies.
- Perform under indirect supervision otoscopy and a range of comprehensive hearing assessments on older children as part of thesecond tierassessment service.
- Contribute to the production of individualised (re)habilitative programmes for hearing impaired babies, children and young adults including those with challenging behaviour.
- Contribute to the evaluation of audiological treatment programmes, address the necessary changes needed for childrens and babies on-going aural (re)habilitationand report outcomes to a multidisciplinary team.
- Select, fit, verify and evaluate NHS digital hearing aids withappropriate followup, outcome measures and repairs.
- Provide a hearing aid technical support/repair service for all hearing aided children.
- Perform ear impressions on young adults and children with direct or indirect supervision asrequired.
- Assistwith the administrative aspects of the in-house and peripheral Ear Mould Service
- Assistin the review and up‑date of working practices,adminand clerical procedures in line with NDCS, NHSP and MCHAS guidelines.
- Assistwith the introduction of any new Audiological equipment, technique or working practice andassistwith training where necessary.Support supervision and competency assessments of Audiology students
- Perform routine maintenance/calibration checks on audiological equipment; report faults and arrange repairs.
- Assistwith the administrative aspects of the hearing aid service including record keeping, maintenance and ordering of stock.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of Health and Education professionals to promote the continued implementation of a modernised service as recognised by National Bodies (ieMCHAS, NDCS, NHSP, BSA, BAA).
- Provide information to service users and carers on local resources available.
- Liaise with departmental admin/clerical staff to ensure an efficient and effective day-to-day service.
- Problem solve or defer as necessary all hearing aid queries that arise from children, parents,carersand other members of the multidisciplinary team including situations with potential conflict.
- Maintain comprehensive andaccurateelectronic records of assessment and treatment in line with legal and departmental policy and communicate results toappropriate disciplinesin the form of letters and reports
- Collect data and statistics as directed by the Consultant Audiological Physician and Paediatric Audiology Service Manager.
- To take part in the annual performance reviewin accordance withTrust policy.
- To undertake mandatory trainingin accordance withtrust policy.
- Participate in departmental meetings, research/auditactivitiesand service development.
- Report all feedback from service users and professionals to the Paediatric Audiology Service Manager.
- Maintain AHCS registration and meet CPD requirements
You will need to be organised, enthusiastic, and committed to delivering excellent, childcentred care within a supportive and dynamic service.
- Knowledge of professional audiological procedures relevant to a paediatric service
- Experience of programming NHS hearing aids (hearing aid fitting, verification, evaluation and repairs)
- At least 1 years post qualification experience of working in an NHS Audiology Department
- Paediatric Audiology Experience
- Experience with national systems (e.g., eSP/S4H)
- Knowledge of Child Development
- An interest in Research/Audit or Project work
- BSc (Hons) in Audiology or equivalent
- Professional Registration with AHCS registration
- CPD Portfolio maintained and up to date
- Additional short courses in paediatric audiology
- Competent in age appropriate testing (performance, speech testing, tympanometry, PTA, Oto-Acoustic Emissions)
- Hearing aid fitting, verification, evaluation and repairs
- Excellent verbal and written communication, adapting to children with additional needs
- Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to peripheral/community clinics
- Auditbase experience
