Job summary

Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 Paediatric Audiologist to support the Consultant Audiological Physician and senior staff in evaluating hearing disorders in young patients. The role includes independent and supervised otoscopy, tests, and contributing to individualized (re)habilitation plans for babies and children.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, assist with NHS digital hearing aids, and participate in administrative duties for the Ear Mould

Qualifications

  • Assist in tertiary level evaluation of hearing disorders in young patients under supervision.
  • Perform otoscopy and comprehensive hearing assessments for children under supervision.
  • Contribute to rehabilitative programmes for babies and children with hearing impairment.
  • Maintain electronic records and report outcomes to multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Select, fit, verify and evaluate NHS digital hearing aids with follow-up, outcome measures and repairs.
  • Provide a hearing aid technical support/repair service for all hearing aided children.
  • Assist with the administrative aspects of the in-house and peripheral Ear Mould Service.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating working practices in line with NDCS, NHSP and MCHAS guidelines.
  • Support supervision and competency assessments of Audiology students.

Job description

As a Band 5 Paediatric Audiologist, you will: Assist the Consultant Audiological Physician and senior grades of staff in tertiary level evaluation of hearing disorders in young adults,childrenand babies. Perform under indirect supervision otoscopy and a range of comprehensive hearing assessments on older children as part of thesecond tierassessment service. Contribute to the production of individualised (re)habilitative programmes for hearing impaired babies, children and young adults including those with challenging behaviour. Contribute to the evaluation of audiological treatment programmes, address the necessary changes needed for childrens and babies on-going aural (re)habilitationand report outcomes to a multidisciplinary team. Select, fit, verify and evaluate NHS digital hearing aids withappropriate followup, outcome measures and repairs. Provide a hearing aid technical support/repair service for all hearing aided children. Perform ear impressions on young adults and children with direct or indirect supervision asrequired. Assistwith the administrative aspects of the in-house and peripheral Ear Mould Service Assistin the review and up-date of working practices,adminand clerical procedures in line with NDCS, NHSP and MCHAS guidelines. Assistwith the introduction of any new Audiological equipment, technique or working practice andassistwith training where necessary.Support supervision and competency assessments of Audiology students Perform routine maintenance/calibration checks on audiological equipment; report faults and arrange repairs. Assistwith the administrative aspects of the hearing aid service including record keeping, maintenance and ordering of stock. Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of Health and Education professionals to promote the continued implementation of a modernised service as recognised by National Bodies (ieMCHAS, NDCS, NHSP, BSA, BAA). Provide information to service users and carers on local resources available. Liaise with departmental admin/clerical staff to ensure an efficient and effective day-to-day service. Problem solve or defer as necessary all hearing aid queries that arise from children, parents,carersand other members of the multidisciplinary team including situations with potential conflict. Maintain comprehensive andaccurateelectronic records of assessment and treatment in line with legal and departmental policy and communicate results toappropriate disciplinesin the form of letters and reports Collect data and statistics as directed by the Consultant Audiological Physician and Paediatric Audiology Service Manager. To take part in the annual performance reviewin accordance withTrust policy. To undertake mandatory trainingin accordance withtrust policy. Participate in departmental meetings, research/auditactivitiesand service development. Report all feedback from service users and professionals to the Paediatric Audiology Service Manager. Maintain AHCS registration and meet CPD requirements You will need to be organised, enthusiastic, and committed to delivering excellent, childcentred care within a supportive and dynamic service.
