Fixed term contract 10 months - maternity cover

We are seeking a bright, committed, and enthusiastic individual to join the Children's Hearing Clinic Team at Northampton General Hospital Trust to cover maternity leave.

You will be part of an established team of dedicated Paediatric Audiologists and will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including Community Paediatricians and Teachers of the Deaf.

You must be registered or in the process of registering with the RCCP/AHCS or HCPC.

You should be interested in actively contributing to the department's journey towards IQIPS accreditation.

Main duties of the job

The Children's Hearing Clinic is a busy hospital-based clinic receiving referrals from various professionals across South Northants and supporting the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme. We work closely with colleagues in Paediatrics, ENT, primary care, education, and the voluntary sector.

Your role includes providing diagnostic services, performing a full range of assessments on neonates, children, and young people up to 18 years old, including those with learning disabilities and additional needs.

You will also provide aural habilitation, counselling parents/guardians, and making treatment decisions in consultation with senior staff or paediatricians.

About us

Northampton General Hospital is a large employer committed to modernisation and excellence. Our audiology services have recently collaborated with neighboring trusts and are part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.

Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Courage

We aim to recruit the best, promote inclusivity, and support our diverse workforce through active networks and a supportive environment.

Job responsibilities

You should be an excellent communicator, proactive, able to work independently and as part of a team, with a good sense of humour and resilience under pressure. Experience working with children with complex needs is essential.

Your duties include ensuring high-quality clinical services, maintaining professional development, supervising junior staff, and managing caseloads independently.

You will assess patients, provide behavioural audiological assessments, manage hearing aids, and ensure comprehensive documentation and communication with families and professionals.

You will also monitor referrals, participate in departmental meetings, and contribute to departmental policies and national priorities, including IQIPS accreditation.

Supervisory duties include training and supporting trainees, students, and non-clinical staff, as well as identifying training needs and maintaining CPD.
