Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced paediatric ambulatory nurse to provide evidence-based care in designated clinical areas. You will administer medicines, monitor patients, and document meticulously, working with a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires NMC registration (RNC/RSCN) and PILS; acute paediatrics experience in the NHS is preferred. You will contribute to service improvements and uphold high standards of patient safety.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care in designated paediatric areas.
• Perform nursing procedures and administer medicines safely, including controlled drugs and IV drugs.
• Maintain accurate patient observations and documentation; ensure records are complete before shift end.
• Collaborate with the MDT to determine treatments and priorities for nursing care.
• Support service improvement and quality initiatives in paediatric care.
• Adhere to the NMC Code and work independently with accountability for actions.

Job description

The post is a paediatric ambulatory nursing role with Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, working in designated clinical areas alongside other health professionals. Core work covers evidence-based care, nursing procedures, safe medicines administration including controlled and intravenous drugs, and records completed before each shift ends. The role suits someone with acute general paediatric experience who can work independently, sometimes without direct supervision, and help develop service and quality improvement. Current NMC registration, RNC or RSCN, and PILS are essential.

What the job involves

• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care in designated clinical areas
• Carry out nursing and clinical procedures underpinned by theory and practical experience
• Advocate for patients to keep care patient-focused
• Provide high-quality care and a positive patient experience, respecting customs, beliefs and ethnicity
• Monitor patient progress, keep accurate observations and assessments, and act as indicated
• Work with other health professionals to agree treatments and advise on nursing priorities
• Be accountable for the correct administration and custody of medicines, including controlled drugs, intravenous drugs and blood transfusion
• Complete all nursing documentation before the end of the shift, legibly and in line with Trust and NMC standards
• Work collaboratively to develop service and quality improvement initiatives
• Practise to the NMC Code, working independently and accountable for own professional actions
