Job summary

Glass Door Night Shelters is seeking an Overnight Shelter Worker to cover ad-hoc shifts at our night shelters in London. You will work overnight, awake and engaged, supporting up to 35 guests and ensuring a calm, safe space while the team operates between November and March.

You’ll drive the Glass Door van on driver shifts and help with breakfast and packing for the next night. The role requires a valid manual driving licence, strong communication, and the ability to handle difficult situations

Qualifications

A valid driving licence for a manual vehicle and willingness to drive the Glass Door van.
Commitment to providing a high standard of service with respect, kindness and dignity.
Ability to handle challenging behaviour calmly and respectfully.
Good communication skills, both spoken and written.
Ability to carry out manual handling tasks.

Responsibilities

Welcoming and supporting guests and building positive relationships.
Carrying out regular checks throughout the night to ensure safety.
Responding to situations with calm, appropriate action including emergency calls if needed.
Keep the shelter safe, secure, tidy and hazard-free.
Record shift notes and complete incident forms as needed.
Support volunteers on shift and provide guidance.
Unloading and loading the van at shift start/end.
Restock essential supplies and prepare breakfast for guests.
Attend training sessions and meetings when scheduled.
