Job summary

Glass Door Night Shelters is seeking a Night Shelter Manager to lead a shift at one of our seasonal night shelters in Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, or Wandsworth. Expect an ad-hoc role from November to March with shifts 5:00pm–10:00pm and a wage of £19.90 per hour.

You will work alongside Overnight Project Workers and volunteers to provide a welcoming, safe environment for up to 35 guests. You’ll brief the team, induct guests, ensure guidelines are followed, and coordinate with

Qualifications

• A valid manual driving licence and willingness to drive the Glass Door van.
• Experience working with people experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable groups.
• A genuine commitment to high-quality service, treating everyone with respect, kindness and dignity.
• The ability to lead a small team confidently, including during challenging or fast-changing situations, while staying calm and professional.
• Confidence in handling challenging behaviour calmly and respectfully.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to work on a casual/bank basis, sometimes at short notice.
• Ability to perform manual handling tasks such as moving supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the shift to ensure safe, smooth shelter operations.
• Brief the team before opening and welcome new guests.
• Induct guests by explaining shelter guidelines and behavior expectations.
• Support and guide volunteers; coordinate with Volunteer Coordinators.
• Monitor guest wellbeing and respond to issues or emergencies.
• Maintain safety, security, and shelter procedures during shifts.
• Provide clear handovers to the overnight team.
• Record attendance and incidents; liaise with casework for follow-up.
• Assist with guests' day-to-day needs and practical tasks.
• Attend monthly meetings and training; participate in supervision.
