Job summary

Glass Door Night Shelter is seeking an Overnight Homeless Shelter Worker to help run its night shelters between November and March in London, with shifts 7:00pm–7:15am or 9:45pm–8:15am (driver). You will work with at least one other staff member to support up to 35 guests, ensuring a safe, calm, welcoming space.

The role involves checking guests, responding to distress, serving breakfast, packing the van, and driving when required. Training is provided, and a DBS check applies.

Qualifications

• A valid driving licence for a manual vehicle.
• Commitment to providing a high standard of service with respect, kindness, and dignity.
• Ability to handle challenging behaviour calmly and respectfully.
• Good communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Ability to perform manual handling tasks.

Responsibilities

• Welcoming and supporting guests, creating a friendly, respectful atmosphere.
• Staying alert all night with regular checks for guest safety and comfort.
• Responding calmly to situations and calling emergency services if needed.
• Keeping the shelter safe and secure by following safety procedures.
• Recording shift reports and any concerns or observations.
