Job summary

BrisDoc Healthcare Services is seeking an Overnight GP for the SevernSide Integrated Urgent Care service. The role involves managing urgent primary care cases across age groups via in-person clinics, telephone triage, and video consultations.

You will prescribe appropriately, including end-of-life medications, and ensure thorough documentation for continuity of care. BrisDoc is an employee-owned social enterprise serving NHS patients in Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage the full breadth of urgent primary care presentations across all age groups in the BNSSG area.
• Take telephone referrals from health care professionals within the BNSSG area for appropriate adult medical admissions with sensitivity to acute trust capacity.
• Demonstrate excellent communication with referring health care professionals to discuss alternative management options.
• Familiarise yourself with other urgent care services in the BNSSG system and how to access them for patients.
• Conduct clinical work by telephone and/or video, assessing concerns and forming differential diagnoses and management plans.
• Support community management where possible, while recognising serious illness requiring admission or ambulance response.
• Prescribe appropriately for urgent primary care, including initiating and adjusting end-of-life medications.
• Document key assessment findings to log the encounter accurately for continuity of care.

Job description

As a SevernSide Overnight GP your role will involve, managing a wide range of clinical presentations in urgent care settings, supporting patients via telephone, video, or face-to-face consultations, prescribing effectively, including adjustments to end-of-life care, maintaining thorough documentation for continuity of care, as well as mentoring new clinicians and contributing to peak-demand rotas.

Our IUC service offers Clinicians a choice of diverse shift types to match their skills and interest.

As a SevernSide Overnight GP You Will

• Assess and manage the full breadth of clinical presentations and age groups which present in the urgent primary care setting, including physical and mental health needs
• Take telephone referrals from Health Care professionals within the BNSSG area for appropriate adult medical admissions whilst being sensitive to the capacity issues of the hosting acute trust
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills with referring HCPs, in order to build positive relationships so that alternative management ideas can be discussed without confrontation
• Gain familiarity with the other urgent care services available in the BNSSG system, and how to access these for patients
• Undertake clinical work by telephone +/- video, consulting with patients and/or their representatives and healthcare professionals in the community to appropriately assess the current concerns, establish an appropriate differential diagnosis and management plan
• Seek to support community management wherever possible, but be able to recognise serious illness and emergency situations requiring admission and/or an ambulance response
• Be able to prescribe appropriately for the urgent primary care context, including initiating and changing end of life medications
• Document the key findings from their assessment, such that the notes provide appropriate detail to log the assessment at the time, and support other clinicians who may be involved later in the patient’s journey.
