Job summary

Network Rail is hiring an Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) Operative in England. You will inspect and maintain the overhead cables that power trains, supporting technicians and team leaders while learning a skilled trade.

You must be prepared for outdoor work in all weather, at height, and on a rotating day‑night weekend roster. Training is provided to develop practical, safety‑critical competencies.

Qualifications

• Must be within 60 minutes travel time of the advert location.
• Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
• Hold and retain competencies relevant to the post as required by the business.
• Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ 1 (or equivalent).
• Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and renew overhead line equipment to keep trains powered.
• Support Technicians and Team Leaders in daily tasks.
• Work outdoors, at height, with high‑voltage equipment in a safety‑critical environment.
• Follow procedures, prioritise safety, and operate within rostering for day, night and weekend shifts.
