Job summary

Astute People’s Power team is partnering with a leading Biomass company to hire an Outside Operator on a fixed-term contract for 8 months to join their Power Station in Thetford.

The Production Operator role offers a starting salary of around £35,000 plus overtime, private medical cover and other benefits, with 12-hour shifts and a full shift rota.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
• Health and safety qualification ideal but not required.
• Experience in heavy process engineering environments such as power stations.
• Strong teamwork and willingness to take on additional tasks.
• Good fault finding and diagnostic abilities.

• Perform routine operational checks and inspections.
• Operate plant systems and equipment following procedures.
• Collaborate with shift team to maintain safe and efficient operations.
• Conduct basic maintenance tasks per approved standards.
• Diagnose plant issues and propose effective solutions.
• Carry out start/stop, commissioning, and decommissioning procedures.
• Provide clear shift handovers and follow safety practices.
• Assist in safety documentation and cover fuel/ash operations when needed.

Job description

Astute's Power team is proud to be partnering with a leading Biomass company to hire an Outside Operator on a FTC for 8 months to join their Power Station in Thetford.

The Production Operator role comes with a starting salary of c.£35,000 + overtime + private medical + other benefits.

Responsibilities and duties of the Operator role

• Perform routine operational checks and inspections.
• Operate plant systems and equipment following established operating procedures.
• Collaborate as a key member of the shift team to maintain safe and efficient plant operations.
• Conduct basic maintenance tasks in line with approved maintenance processes and standards.
• Diagnose plant issues and propose effective solutions.
• Carry out pre-start inspections, commissioning, and decommissioning procedures.
• Provide clear, accurate, and complete shift handovers.
• Follow and promote all safety practices and operational procedures.
• Assist the Shift Team Leader in preparing safety-related documentation.
• Support and, when necessary, cover responsibilities within the fuel and ash operations team, including driving mobile plant

This role will be working 12-hour shifts - full shift rota can be disclosed upon request

Professional qualifications

• Ideally a NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a relevant engineering subject such as mechanical or electrical engineering
• A health and safety qualification would be ideal but not a necessity
• Prior experience working in a heavy process engineering environment such as power stations, paper mills, refineries, steel production, cement, etc.
• Good teamworking skills and willing to pick up other work when needed
• Experience in fault finding techniques

Personal Skills

• Safety-conscious with a strong commitment to following procedures and maintaining high standards.
• A reliable team player with good communication skills and a proactive approach to work.
• Practical and hands-on, with experience operating mobile plant and carrying out routine plant inspections.

Salary and benefits of the Operator role

Salary of c. £35,000 (pro-rated
