Job summary

Astute People is recruiting an Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician for a Biomass Power Station in Chilton, Durham. The role reports to Maintenance Manager and carries a salary of £51,000 with bonus, overtime and other benefits.

The successful candidate will diagnose faults, perform planned and unplanned maintenance on EC&I assets, and work with the maintenance team to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Electronic/Control and Instrumentation Engineering preferred.
• IOSH health and safety qualification advantageous.
• Experience in heavy process environments (Power, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Steel) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out fault diagnosis, repairs and maintenance on EC&I assets to maximise plant availability (pressure, level, temperature, flow sensors and control systems).
• Assist during major maintenance periods, shutdowns and outages to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency.
• Work with other technicians to diagnose faults and suggest upgrades; supervise on-site contractors as needed.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the CMMS.

Astute’s Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for an Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician to join their Biomass Power Station in Chilton, Durham.

The vital EC&I Technician role comes with a salary of £51,000 + Bonus + Overtime + other excellent company benefits.

Responsibilities and duties of the EC&I Technician role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Carrying out fault diagnosis, repairs, planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all EC&I assets to maximise plant availability including pressure, level, temperature and flow sensors and control systems (DCS, PLCs) and electrical equipment.
• Assisting during major maintenance periods, shutdowns, outages etc. when required to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency.
• Working alongside other technicians in the maintenance team in diagnosing faults and assisting/suggesting equipment upgrades
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site CMMS
• Supervising and directing on site contractors when required
• Working within the company health, safety and environmental processes and procedures at all times.

Professional Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Ideally have an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as Electrical/Electronic/Control and Instrumentation Engineering
• A health and safety qualification such as an IOSH will be highly advantageous

Personal Skills, Prior Experience And Knowledge

The EC&I Technician role would suit someone who has:

• Prior experience working in heavy process engineering environments such as Power (EfW, Biomass, CCGT, Coal, CHP, etc), Pharmaceutical, Chemicals, Steel Production, etc.
• Having prior experience working with steam generation equipment will be highly advantageous.
• Excellent technical knowledge of PLC, DCS, Instrumentation and Electrical systems
• Experience working with HV equipment will be highly desirable
• Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
