Job overview

The Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in ensuring efficient and high-quality patient care is consistently delivered and maintained. They will manage the workflow in the Outpatient Dispensary and support the delivery of a high-quality Outpatient pharmacy service, under the direction of the General Pharmacy manager and Superintendent Pharmacist.

They will be expected to pass in-house competency assessments as part of their induction/probation.

Main duties of the job

We’re Hiring – FULL TIME (40 hours per week) Outpatient Pharmacy Technician

  • Manage overall dispensary workflow and assist with the assembly of prescriptions using JAC and ARIM software in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide comprehensive counselling to patients on the use of medication.
  • Provide health and well-being advice and recommend suitable remedies for minor ailments by signposting patients or through sales of OTC and pharmacy-only medicines.
  • Stock management including: receipt, storage, date checking and stock housekeeping.
Person specification
Experience
  • Current community or hospital pharmacy experience
  • Use of a pharmacy computer system
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of using JAC and ARIM pharmacy computer system
  • Experience of using prescription tracking systems (PTS)
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification (or to be achieved within 12 months of commencement)
Functional
  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritise, plan and organise
  • Fluent written and spoken English including good numeracy
  • Meet and Demonstrate Trust ICARE values
  • Strong communication skills - must be able to recognise and overcome barriers to understanding e.g. language, deaf, learning difficulties
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 Qualifications in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification (or to be achieved within 12 months of commencement)
