Job summary

Outcomes First Group's Acorn Education division is seeking an enthusiastic Outdoor Education Teacher for Wetheringsett Manor School in Suffolk. You will lead outdoor learning for pupils aged 11-18 with SEND, delivering Forest School, horticulture, DofE and life skills to build confidence and resilience.

As Form Tutor and key collaborator with therapists and families, you will tailor programmes to ASD/SEMH needs, develop the outdoor curriculum, assess progress, and foster safe, engaging learning

Qualifications

  • Must hold a QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND, ASD/SEMH.
  • Driving licence required to support off-site activities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality outdoor education lessons to pupils aged 11-18.
  • Teach Forest School, Horticulture, DofE, and life skills programmes.
  • Act as a Form Tutor, supporting pupils' personal development and wellbeing.
  • Develop and enhance the school's outdoor learning provision.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of pupils with ASD, SEMH, and additional learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the therapy team to create meaningful, pupil-centred learning experiences.
  • Plan, assess, and monitor pupil progress to ensure strong outcomes.
  • Create safe, stimulating, and engaging learning environments both indoors and outdoors.
  • Support pupils to develop independence, confidence, social skills, and resilience.
  • Build positive relationships with families, colleagues, and external professionals.

Job description

At Wetheringsett Manor School, we are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Outdoor Education Teacher to lead and develop our outdoor learning provision, supporting pupils aged 11-18 with a range of additional needs, including ASD and SEMH. This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for education, the outdoors, and personal development while making a genuine difference to the lives of young people. As our Outdoor Education Teacher, you will deliver engaging and meaningful learning experiences that help pupils build confidence, resilience, independence, and practical life skills. You will take a lead role in developing and enhancing the school's outdoor education curriculum, delivering programmes such as:

  • Forest School
  • Horticulture
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE)
  • Life Skills Education (WMS101)

Working closely with teaching staff, therapists, families, and external agencies, you will create personalised learning opportunities that enable every pupil to achieve their potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

What you will be doing

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification required.
  • Has experience working with pupils with SEND, ASD, SEMH, or complex needs.
  • Is passionate about outdoor learning and experiential education.
  • Has experience delivering or supporting Forest School, Horticulture, DofE, or similar outdoor programmes.
  • Can inspire and engage pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning.
  • Is organised, resilient, and committed to achieving the best outcomes for every pupil.
  • Shares our belief that every young person can succeed with the right support and opportunities.
  • Driving licence required.
