Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a 7-year-old pupil with Autism at a school prioritising outdoor learning. The role involves emotional regulation support, transitions management, and engaging, hands-on activities outdoors.

The ideal candidate is energetic, patient and creative, with the ability to work closely with teaching staff and adapt activities to the child’s needs. Immediate start during term time.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with Autism/ASD.
• Confident providing dedicated 1:1 SEN support.
• Strong understanding of emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Experience supporting transitions and changes in routine.
• Energetic, outdoors-friendly; able to teach practically in varied environments.
• Calm, patient and able to manage dysregulation while staying positive.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a 7-year-old pupil with Autism.
• Support emotional regulation and help recognise/manage emotions.
• Assist with smooth transitions between activities, environments and routines.
• Encourage engagement through practical, creative outdoor learning experiences.
• Involve pupil in outdoor exploration, physical activities and play-based learning.
• Use visual supports and structured routines to support learning.
• Build a trusting, positive relationship with the pupil.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to provide consistent support.
• Adapt activities to the pupil's interests and energy levels.
