Job summary

Sword Group is seeking an OT Controls Engineer to shape and deliver standardised, secure and scalable control system solutions across electricity distribution environments. You will work at the intersection of engineering design, product assurance and operational delivery, developing repeatable and cyber-secure architectures.

You will contribute to evaluation, testing and standardisation of substation control technologies, ensuring compliance with operational and regulatory requirements, and

Qualifications

• Experience in operational technology environments within utilities or energy sectors.
• Experience designing, configuring or commissioning substation control systems.
• Hands-on experience configuring RTUs (Schneider, Hitachi/ABB, ZIV, SEL or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of DNP3; familiarity with IEC 61850 is desirable.
• Understanding of electricity distribution networks and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience creating engineering drawings and schematics using AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and review engineering standards for substation control systems.
• Produce technical specifications for control system components and ensure regulatory alignment.
• Design and implement test plans to validate equipment against specifications.
• Evaluate vendor solutions prior to deployment.
• Develop, configure and test standard RTU builds for repeatability across sites.
• Produce schematics and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD.
• Support standardised substation designs and architectures.
• Collaborate with engineering, cyber security and operations teams to ensure practical deployment.
• Support digitisation, ensuring scalable and future-ready solutions.
