Your Role

At Asda, there is nothing more important than the health and wellbeing of our customers. Our priority is to always put them first by delivering high-quality patient care.

Due to our extended service contracts with the NHS, we're committed to delivering a wide range of care for the treatment and monitoring of minor eye conditions. A typical day involves screening patients, coaching and training the wider team, and helping to maintain standards in the department.

At Asda, we are passionate and committed to providing our Optometrists with all the necessary training to fulfill their roles and enhance their skills. We offer a comprehensive CPD programme and protected time for Optometrists to complete further accreditations funded by Asda, ensuring you meet the evolving eye care needs of our customers. Our goal is to develop and support you to reach your full potential.

You will have access to in-store, regional, and home office teams, providing full support whether your queries are clinical or service-related. There is always someone on hand to offer expert advice and support.

About You

At Asda, service and creating a memorable customer experience are paramount. You will leverage your clinical skills and passion to help achieve this.

Working alongside an Optical Manager (a qualified Dispensing Optician), you will contribute to creating an environment of clinical and operational excellence. By collaborating with the wider team, you will support coaching, training, and developing new patient services to ensure we offer the most current and accessible services to meet customer needs.

You'll be:
  • A fully qualified optometrist registered with the GOC
  • A registered performer with your NHS area team or health board
  • MECs or WECs accredited (or willing to gain accreditation within 12 months of joining Asda – funded and supported by us)
  • On track to meet the statutory points requirement for CPD
  • Able to use your skills and passion to deliver a memorable customer experience
  • Passionate about developing new patient services and shaping the department's culture

When applying for any of our Optical positions, you must be registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) for the relevant professional role. Additionally, you will need to provide evidence of Right To Work in the UK.

As part of the compliance process, we will ask for evidence of being on the NHS performer list or, in Scotland, the Health Board you wish to work in, along with two clinical references. For Wales, evidence of WECS accreditation and WGOS module accreditation will be required.
