You’ll develop skills in frame measurements, lens knowledge, and pre-screening procedures while progressing toward the L3 Optical Assistant Qualification.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers professionally as they enter the practice.
• Interpret prescription and discuss eye care considerations.
• Assist customers in selecting frames that suit lifestyle and fit.
• Explain features/benefits of frames in simple terms.
• Measure and adjust frames for comfort and fit.
• Perform basic frame adjustments and simple repairs.
• Have knowledge of lenses, tints and coatings to meet needs.
• Order glasses and contact lenses for customers.
• Complete NHS paperwork accurately and maintain records.
• Book follow-up appointments and use focimeter to read prescriptions.
• Explain lens options and contact lens suitability.
• Assist with screening tests and communicate offers to customers.
