Job summary

Specsavers in Bedford is launching an Optical Assistant Apprenticeship. The role offers full-time hours (37.5 per week) with a wage of £8.20 per hour, designed for those starting a career in optics and retail. You’ll gain training, support, and progression opportunities within a well-known retail optics group.

The apprenticeship focuses on customer service, eye tests scheduling, pre-screening, and providing personalised frame advice, with daily interactions in-store and over the phone.

Qualifications

• Experience in delivering great customer service in a retail setting is preferred.
• Basic communication skills and a willingness to learn on the job.
• Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers into store and provide friendly help.
• Book in eye tests and assist with appointments.
• Pre-screening patients and taking basic measurements.
• Provide style advice and help customers choose frames.
• Measure frames and handle phone inquiries.

Who is this Apprenticeship for?

If this is still sounding like a bit of you, we do need you to have a few skills to get started as an Optical Assistant Apprentice.

• Individuals with GSCE Maths at Grade 9-4 (A*-C), or an equivalent level qualification
• Individuals who have lived in the EU for 3 years or more, with the right to work in the UK
