Job summary

Powys Teaching Health Board is seeking an Ophthalmology Speciality Lead Consultant to provide medical leadership for the ophthalmology service within Powys. The role requires strong clinical skills and governance oversight, with a passion for service transformation and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

The post emphasises leadership in audit, research, and clinical governance, and includes a part-time arrangement of one session per week with a base salary in the NHS scale.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration and eligibility to practice in the UK.
• FRCS or equivalent and entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT within 6 months of interview.
• Experience leading ophthalmology service development and transformation.

Responsibilities

• Chair ophthalmology clinical groups and provide specialty leadership representation.
• Oversee continual improvement of ophthalmology services against national standards.
• Oversee development of clinical policies and protocols in ophthalmology.
• Oversee rolling audit programme with timelines and contributors.
• Ensure safety and quality KPIs in ophthalmology are reviewed and acted on.
• Provide expert support in complaints and incidents within ophthalmology.
• Lead development of clinical strategy for ophthalmology and health transformation.
