Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a motivated Registered Nurse to join the Ophthalmology Emergency Department at the Western Eye Hospital on a 9-month fixed-term contract. The role involves triage, nursing care, and diagnostic procedures for urgent eye conditions, with strong teamwork in a busy clinical environment.

Applicants should have good communication and organisational skills; ophthalmic experience is desirable but not essential. Training and development are available.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with valid NMC pin and current registration.
• Desirable ophthalmology experience; inclusion in Ophthalmic Practitioner Training is encouraged.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills; works well in a busy multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients with urgent ophthalmic conditions.
• Triage, assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in Ophthalmology ED.
• Administer medicines safely and document accurately; monitor patient condition.
• Perform ophthalmic observations and diagnostic tests using specialist equipment.
• Support safe discharge and patient education for eye-related issues.
• Work collaboratively with nursing, medical and allied teams; contribute to service improvement.
