Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Healthcare Support Worker to join the Ophthalmology team at The Royal Alexandra Hospital. You will support patients across outpatient and inpatient services, working closely with nurses, optometrists and the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, compassionate and person-centred care.

The role involves ophthalmology assessments, patient support through investigations and treatments, and assisting with transfers and routine clinical duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care under supervision of nursing and clinical staff.
• Perform ophthalmology assessments (visual acuity, visual fields, OCT, tonometry).
• Support patients throughout appointments, investigations and treatment pathways.
• Report changes in patient condition to clinical staff.
• Assist with patient transfers, observations and personal care.
• Maintain records and support department daily operations.
