Job summary

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting two Locum Consultants (12 month fixed term) to join our Ophthalmic Accident & Emergency Department, which runs 24/7 and handles 100,000+ patient episodes annually. FRCOPhth or equivalent and GMC registration are required.

The roles include a 5.08 PA timetable with DCC fixed and SPA/admin flexibility, supervision of junior staff, and teaching responsibilities.

Qualifications

• The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice.
• FRCOPhth or equivalent is required for the Consultant post.
• GMC registration and professional standing are essential.
• Experience in ophthalmic emergency care or A&E management is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct clinical care in the A&E department, including urgent and complex ophthalmic cases.
• Lead on day-to-day operations and supervise junior medical staff and students.
• Contribute to audits, governance, and service development.
• Provide teaching and career development support to staff.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advise primary care and other services.
• Engage in ophthalmology research and stay updated with best practices.
• Maintain CPD in line with Royal College of Ophthalmologists requirements.
