18 Week Support is seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to support weekend clinics in Southampton. You will work alongside consultants and healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care in a professional outpatient setting.

The role involves Saturday and Sunday shifts from 08:00 to 18:00, offering flexible weekend hours and the opportunity to contribute to reduced patient waiting times and improved access to care.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Ophthalmology outpatient settings.
  • Ability to perform visual acuity assessments with Snellen and LogMAR charts.
  • Ability to perform visual field testing (24-2 and 10-2).
  • Operate Heidelberg OCT and anterior segment OCT.
  • Perform retinal imaging using the Optos system.
  • Experience supporting consultants during ophthalmology procedures.
  • Accurate patient observations and documentation.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while delivering patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

  • Support ophthalmology outpatient services and weekend clinics.
  • Conduct visual acuity assessments, visual field testing and OCT imaging.
  • Record patient observations accurately and maintain documentation.
  • Assist consultants during a range of ophthalmology procedures.

Hours: 08:00 – 18:00

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to support weekend breast clinics in the Southampton. Working alongside consultants and registered healthcare professionals, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care within a professional outpatient setting.

Key Requirements
  • Previous experience working within an Ophthalmology outpatient setting.
  • Ability to perform visual acuity assessments using Snellen and LogMar charts.
  • Ability to perform visual field testing, including 24-2 and 10-2 protocols.
  • Ability to perform Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) using the Heidelberg machine.
  • Ability to perform Anterior Segment OCT using the Heidelberg machine.
  • Ability to perform retinal imaging using the Optos.
  • Experience supporting consultants during a range of Ophthalmology procedures and treatments.
  • The ability to undertake and record patient observations accurately.
  • Strong clinical documentation and communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently while providing excellent patient-centred care.
