Job summary

Stevenage Borough Council is seeking four full-time Operatives in Cleansing to join the Stevenage Direct Services team. You will perform street cleansing, litter collection, bin maintenance, graffiti removal and leafing across Stevenage, using jet wash and scrubber equipment.

Permanent contract, 37 hours per week, pro rata for part-time hours where applicable. The role emphasises teamwork, attention to detail and initiative, with a strong commitment to public spaces and safety.

Qualifications

• Experience in street cleansing desirable.
• Ability to work as part of a team and use initiative.
• Attention to detail to maintain high cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities

• Litter picking from residential streets, parks and retail areas.
• Maintaining and emptying the 1300 street bins within Stevenage.
• Removal of graffiti imagery and tagging.
• Seasonal leaf collection.
• Operation of equipment such as jet wash, scrubber dryer and vacuum collection machines.
