Operations Supervisor Waste Collections

Take the helm of a high-performing waste collection operation where your leadership directly impacts service delivery, safety, and environmental stewardship.

As our Operations Supervisor, you will be the driving force behind the day-to-day coordination of our waste collection activities on a major £6m contract. Youll lead by example, managing a dedicated team of drivers, operatives, and sub-contractors to ensure we deliver an efficient, cost-effective service that meets customer expectations and budget goals.

Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
  • Champion safety: Lead from the front by implementing company SHEQ policies, conducting thorough risk assessments, and ensuring safe systems of work.

  • Protect the environment: Perform environmental aspects and impacts analyses to minimize our footprint and ensure strict adherence to site permits and regulations.

  • Investigate and train: Oversee accident, incident, and near-miss reporting. Ensure all staff and sub-contractors are fully trained, competent, and hold the correct licenses and certificates.

  • Maintain standards: Display statutory notices, manage PPE distribution, and hold team members accountable for their health, safety, and environmental responsibilities.

Operational Excellence & Resource Management
  • Drive performance: Organize effective operational procedures, maintain high standards of discipline, and actively monitor staff performance to address issues swiftly.

  • Optimize resources: Manage the waste collection fleet, equipment, and personnel efficiently, reviewing working practices to promote cost-effective methods.

  • Manage scheduling: Oversee work schedules, holiday planning, and cover arrangements for absenteeism and sickness.

  • Report on progress: Prepare and submit comprehensive daily and weekly management reports, keeping leadership informed of staffing levels, metrics, and site performance.

What You Bring
  • Management Experience: Proven background in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably within waste management, logistics, or a related field.

  • Industry Knowledge: A thorough understanding of waste management legislation, operational standards, and compliance.

  • People Skills: Exceptional person-management abilities, with a knack for motivating teams, training personnel, and handling performance management constructively.

  • Tech Savvy: Computer literate with the ability to manage schedules, reports, and administrative tasks digitally.

  • Driving Licence: A current, clean driving licence (HGV entitlement is highly desirable).

Personal Attributes

  • A strong customer-first mindset with a proactive, problem-solving attitude.

  • High motivation and a genuine eagerness to tackle operational challenges and continue learning.
