Job summary

Luminary Bakery is seeking an experienced Managing Director (Operations) to oversee the business across retail, production, facilities, compliance, logistics and people. You will lead strategic planning, drive operational excellence and ensure profitability while delivering social impact for women facing barriers to employment.

The role requires on-site leadership at multiple London-area sites, with a focus on growing Kings Cross, stabilising production capacity and expanding the bakery concept.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in hospitality, food production, retail or multi-site operations.
• Experience managing multiple sites and diverse operational teams.
• Strong understanding of food manufacturing, food safety and compliance.
• Proven experience improving operational performance and profitability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the business and deliver strategic objectives with the Board.
• Develop and execute annual business plans, budgets and priorities with KPIs across departments.
• Maintain a high-performing leadership culture focused on accountability and collaboration.
• Prepare board & shareholder reports, and present operational performance to directors.
• Deliver profitability, productivity and cash flow targets with the Finance Lead.
• Monitor labour, food costs, waste, overheads and KPIs; identify opportunities for automation and cost reduction.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of all sites, ensuring consistency and performance across retail, production and delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement in productivity, quality and customer experience; establish operating procedures across locations.
• Develop scalable systems for future openings; identify bottlenecks and implement solutions.
• Lead sustainability, ESG and impact practices, including external accreditations like B Corp.
• Ensure production resources, labour planning and equipment utilisation are optimised; manage logistics and capacity planning models.
• Oversee procurement, supplier management and stock control.
