Job description

Operations Manager – Production & Distribution

The Standard is a media company that offers news and culture for Londoners, everywhere. We deliver content through digital, audio, video, and social platforms, as well as a new weekly print product called The London Standard. We also create live experiences and events and collaborate with a number of OOH partners.

Our headquarters are located in Finsbury Square, London.

About you

You possess strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple functions and a diverse, remote 3rd party workforce. You have excellent people skills, business acumen, and an exemplary work ethic. You hold an understanding of print publishing business functions, proven competency in strategic planning, procurement, and business development. Financial awareness with the ability to develop and deliver against a budget.

The role

The role is responsible for managing all operational activities to ensure the efficient distribution of the weekly print title and help oversee the management of IT infrastructure and facilities operations, delivered by third-party suppliers. You will lead and support staff, ensuring they are motivated, trained, and equipped to meet standards.

You will oversee contract and operational management of third-party suppliers to ensure cost-effective printing, as well as ensure distribution stays on budget and compliant with audit standards.

Your role also involves managing and maintaining policies and procedures to achieve business objectives, controlling operational budgets to drive profitability, and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of the weekly publication.

You will help to implement Health & Safety policies at the Company’s office to maintain a safe working environment and manage relationships with stakeholders and suppliers.

Skills and experience

  1. Experience in the print distribution space.
  2. Knowledge of ABC rules and regulations.
  3. Robust contract management and negotiation skills.
  4. Ability to build relationships with external suppliers and negotiate competitive contracts.
  5. Confident in meeting and presenting to stakeholders at all levels.
  6. Excellent organisational and leadership abilities, effective at prioritising and multitasking.
  7. Analytical skills to evaluate data and performance/operation metrics.
  8. Problem solving, creative thinking and ability to work in team.
  9. Excellent time management and decision-making skills.
