Salary: £46,543 - £50,646

Overview:

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Operational Manager to lead Electrical and Building Services apprenticeship provision. The role focuses on driving the growth of apprenticeship programmes through both levy and non-levy funding, ensuring high-quality teaching, excellent retention and timely achievement rates.

The postholder will be responsible for curriculum delivery, staff management, and quality assurance, while supporting strategic partnerships with employers and other stakeholders. The position also involves deputising for the Assistant Director of Technical Apprenticeships and playing a key role in the development and expansion of the programme.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the recruitment of apprentices, working with internal teams and employers to provide advice, guidance, and skills assessments.
  • Participate in open evenings and employer engagement events.
  • Ensure accurate completion of training plans, skill scans, and course promotional materials.
  • Design and deliver apprentice inductions and support materials.
  • Promote the use of e-portfolio systems (e.g., OneFile) for tracking and monitoring learner progress.
  • Coordinate academic reviews and ensure compliance with funding and quality frameworks.
  • Monitor learner attendance and progress, ensuring regular communication with employers.
  • Identify and support apprentices with additional learning needs through referrals and diagnostics.
  • Keep curriculum resources updated and accessible through digital platforms.
  • Prepare termly employer reports and lead employer update meetings on progress and off-the-job training.
  • Collaborate with employers to design and deliver bespoke training plans aligned with industry standards.
  • Ensure timely assessment, progression, and gateway readiness of all apprentices.
  • Support delivery through IT, blended learning, and e-learning resources.
  • Organise and lead internal standardisation and external verification activities.
  • Monitor and meet key performance indicators, including attendance, off-the-job training, achievement and success rates.
  • Manage registration processes and liaise with awarding organisations as needed.
  • Lead curriculum team meetings and case conferences for quality improvement.
  • Conduct teaching observations and annual staff appraisals.
  • Develop and implement action plans as part of the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Create efficient timetables and staffing plans to maximise resources.
  • Support agency and part-time staff management and recruitment.
  • Build and maintain strong employer partnerships to support curriculum growth and learner outcomes.
  • Represent the programme at strategic meetings and planning forums.
  • Promote progression opportunities and employer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity policies.
  • Undertake any other duties relevant to the scale of the post.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline
  • Level 5 teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, DET)
  • Assessor and Verifier qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching or assessing within Engineering or Building Services
  • In-depth understanding of apprenticeship standards and ESFA funding compliance
  • Proven ability to manage staff and deliver high-quality learning outcomes
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Experience using digital tracking platforms such as OneFile
