Thrive Oldham is recruiting an Operations Manager for our well-established client in the Merthyr, South Wales area.
Working as part of the Senior Leadership team, the Operations Manager will assume overall responsibility for Production, Planning, Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse/Logistics, and Facilities. The role involves leading teams to ensure the health & safety of all associates is a top priority, while maintaining high standards of housekeeping & organization, and achieving or exceeding production plans to meet customer expectations.
The role also includes managing and reporting departmental KPIs and plans for continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Reduce all internal risks & ensure adherence to all Health & Safety regulations
- Promote high standards of product quality while maintaining excellent housekeeping standards throughout the factory
- Ensure all production targets and plans are achieved in line with requirements
- Maintain control over labour costs, including overtime, within the budget
- Manage production supervision & associates in daily manufacturing activities to meet or exceed KPI targets
- Address labour and quality concerns promptly by managing workforce output
- Implement long-term growth plans and develop strategies to achieve production goals
- Ensure a "right first time" approach to quality
- Plan resources & schedule workloads aligned with customer demands
- Manage & control all processes/equipment to ensure high productivity and proactively identify bottlenecks, providing solutions
- Maintain tight control over timekeeping & attendance
- Attend internal and customer meetings to ensure objectives are met
- Communicate effectively across departments and encourage feedback
- Promote product and customer awareness among production staff through continuous improvement methodologies
- Support business management teams in implementing policies, standards, and goals
- Provide motivation, support, and guidance to staff
- Actively promote and document training & development of employees
- Ensure manufacturing flexibility charts are current and relevant

Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in a similar operations role within manufacturing
- Degree or HNC in business operations management or related field
- Training in Continuous Improvement Techniques such as Six Sigma or LEAN
- Strong leadership and management skills in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Experience solving tactical operational issues alongside strategic planning
- Hands-on approach, visible and engaging with all team levels
- Ability to inspire and coach high-performing teams
- Organized, methodical, and calm under pressure
- Knowledge of maintenance and plant management is essential
