Job summary

ITV Granada Reports is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee the operations, logistics and technical delivery for our Granada news service. You will lead a team of production specialists and camera operators, ensuring smooth live broadcasts across platforms.

This senior role combines management with hands‑on operational tasks in gallery and field to support timely news delivery. The ideal candidate will have extensive live broadcasting experience, strong leadership, and the ability to work

Operations Manager ITV Granada Reports The Operations Manager is one of the most senior roles at ITV Granada Reports and is central to the running of our news output. Our Operations Manager leads all operational, logistical and technical fields for the ITV News Granada service and is responsible for managing our technical team of production specialists and camera operators. The role is extremely varied, with time spent on management responsibilities and undertaking operational tasks in the gallery or in the field to support our live broadcasts and multi-platform delivery when required., We need to test these abilities at the interview stage to understand how candidates will react when operating in a pressurised environment. This is a fundamental requirement of the role. We will always consider any request for reasonable adjustments as part of the interview process, for example, sharing key themes when that is requested in connection with a neurodivergent condition, whilst still ensuring that we are able to test a candidate's ability to operate in the specific environment of a newsroom.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

• The ability to plan and operate in the longer term (particularly in relation to colleague development strategy) as well as working to immediate deadlines.
• An organised and methodical but flexible approach with effective logistical skills.
• The ability to lead, develop, motivate and inspire others - setting and achieving high standards for the team.
• The ability to work to deadlines in a pressurised environment
• The ability to provide regular, honest and consistent feedback to others.
• A minimum of one core technical production skill - e.g. camera work, editing, directing

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

• Candidates will ideally have a considerable background in live broadcasting, and an awareness and appreciation of the workings of the news environment is desirable.
• The ability to engage effectively with colleagues within ITV, including senior leaders
• Knowledge of and interest in national and regional news - both newspapers, online and other broadcast media.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated and quick thinking with a 'can-do' attitude
• The ability to keep calm and focused under pressure.
• The ability to understand and work to a budget
• An interest in upcoming technology, Newsrooms are busy and pressurised environments, involving live news production, which often requires colleagues to make quick decisions under pressure. We also need people who are able to use their initiative.
