Job summary

Finham Park School is seeking an Operations Manager to take day-to-day responsibility for the operational side of the school, freeing the headteacher and senior leaders to focus on delivering an exemplary education. The role is a major leadership position, working with the headteacher to oversee Finance, HR, Estates and Health & Safety, and to act as the primary liaison with the MAT central team.

There will be opportunities to invest in buildings, develop systems, and empower support staff.

Job description

The Operations Manager takes day-to-day responsibility for much of the operational aspects of the school, freeing up the headteacher and other senior leaders to focus on providing an exemplary education to our students. The Operations Manager is a crucial part of the senior team and works closely with the headteacher to oversee key business areas including Finance, HR, Estates and Health & Safety. The postholder will also be the primary liaison point between the school and MAT central support functions.

The successful candidate is pivotal in helping us provide a world class educational experience for our students. There is also significant scope to develop systems, improve efficiencies, and ensure that that our support staff are empowered to thrive, whatever their job in school.

The role can be intense at times, and the nature of schools is that things happen unexpectedly. The successful candidate will need to show both high levels of organisation, the ability to stay calm under pressure, and the willingness to flex at a moment’s notice. This is not just an administrative role, but a major leadership one - overseeing more than 100 support staff. We are looking for someone who communicates effectively, builds strong working relationships quickly, and is people centred.

The Operations Manager enjoys a close relationship with the headteacher and will be trusted with significant responsibilities. Alongside this will be high levels of personal support, options for training and further professional development, and the access to all of the significant resource of the central team. The Operations Manager will spend approximately a day a week in the central Trust HQ, supporting initially with the induction, but in turn working closely with operations managers in the other 7 schools to evaluate systems, seek advice and develop supportive professional relationships.

While experience in a school setting is desirable, we recognise that strong candidates may also wish to transfer from industry or corporate backgrounds.
