Job summary

Astute's Power team is recruiting an Operations Manager for an Energy from Waste Power Station in Atherstone, Warwickshire. The role offers a starting salary of around £65,000 plus bonus and benefits, with responsibilities including safe, efficient plant operation and management of operations staff.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will ensure environmental compliance, coordinate with maintenance, oversee contractors, and contribute to budgeting and stakeholder liaison.

Qualifications

• HNC minimum qualification in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation
• IOSH or NEBOSH health and safety qualification preferred
• HV Senior Authorised Person is highly desirable

Responsibilities

• Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the power plant
• Manage on-site operations staff and shift teams
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations at all times
• Coordinate with Maintenance Manager on outages and plant improvements
• Oversee third‑party contractors
• Prepare annual budget for the operations department and manage within it
• Liaise with directors, managers and external stakeholders
• Deputise for Plant Manager when required

Astute's Power team is partnered with global engineering company to recruit an Operations Manager for their Energy from Waste Power Station in Atherstone, Warwickshire.

The vital Operations Manager role comes with a salary of c.£65,000 + Bonus + Benefits.

Responsibilities and duties of the Operations Manager role

Reporting to the Plant Manager you will be responsible for:

• Overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the plant
• The day-to-day management of operations staff including shift teams and operations day staff
• Ensuring the facility operates and complies within environmental regulations at all times
• Liaising with the Maintenance Manager and other relevant personnel regarding projects maintenance, outages, and programming of plant improvements
• Overseeing 3rd party contractors
• Preparing the annual budget for the operations department for review and work within this budget
• Liaising with company directors and managers as well as external stakeholders
• Deputising for the Plant Manager in times of absence

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Ideally having a HNC minimum qualification in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation, etc
• Ideally a formal health and safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH
• HV Senior Authorised Person will be highly desirable

Personal Skills, Prior Experience and Knowledge

The Operations Manager role would suit someone who has:

• Supervisory or management experience in an operations role on a power station or similar heavy process environment such as Power Generation (EfW, Biomass, CCGT, Coal, etc), Paper Mills, Refineries, Petrochemical, etc.
• Prior experience of contract management and budget responsibility
• Good leadership experience and proven ability to lead large teams
