Job description

The Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining the mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process assets of the effluent treatment plant on a client site. The technician will actively use a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for onsite maintenance and monitor plant operations, implementing operational changes as needed.

The role involves preparing the plant for planned and corrective maintenance, conducting analytical testing, and inputting data into computer systems to monitor plant performance. The technician will also carry out complex maintenance tasks such as cleaning, calibrating instruments, servicing pumps, and replacing valves to ensure optimal asset condition.

Ensuring the assets operate at peak performance and the safe, seamless operation of the ETP according to regulatory standards is essential. The role includes working on a standby rota to respond to alarms outside normal hours and during weekends. Full process training will be provided, but candidates should have demonstrable experience in operating and maintaining industrial equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work within client and NSI HSE systems.

• Procure external supplies and services.
• Raise issues affecting the client and NSI promptly.
• Maintain professional relationships with clients, NSI colleagues, and subcontractors.
• Manage external relationships proactively.
• Innovate to improve workplace processes.
• Identify faults, evaluate solutions, and implement actions.
• Gather system information and complete plant logs.
• Monitor system performance and identify operational problems.
• Recommend actions to optimize plant performance.
• Maintain 5S standards.
• Work proactively and independently.
• Develop teamwork skills with clients and colleagues.
• Undergo necessary training and identify personal training needs.

Required Skills/Qualifications (Essential):

• NVQ Level 2 in Process Operations or equivalent, or at least 3 years of industrial process equipment experience.
• Electrical certification.
• Computer literacy.
• Ability to perform repairs and maintenance on plant equipment.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

• Ability to interpret technical information and make operational changes.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes.
• Experience working within a quality system.
• Training in environmental health and safety, including relevant certifications.

Additional Information:

• Salary up to £40,000/year based on experience.
• 40 hours/week, Monday to Sunday, with a 1 in 3 standby rota (£25/day).
• Overtime paid at 1.5x.
• 25 days holiday plus 8 statutory days.
• Probation period of 6 months.

• Employment terms include a notice period of 1 week during probation and 1 month afterward.
