Job summary

Devon Air Ambulance is seeking a seasoned clinical leader to head education and operational management for our HEMS team. You will collaborate with the Clinical Leadership Team to shape education programs, support staff development, and ensure staffing compliance across Exeter and North Devon bases.

The role requires extensive pre-hospital or emergency care experience, strong governance knowledge, and a compassionate, inclusive leadership style. Fixed-term maternity cover, 12 months.

Job description

Salary: £60,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Location: Exeter HQ / Exeter & North Devon Airbases / Some cross-departmental working

Duration: 12 month fixed-term contract (Maternity Cover)

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the clinical education, professional development and operational management of our HEMS clinical team. Working closely with the Associate Clinical Director and Clinical Leadership Team, you will oversee the multidisciplinary education programme, support and develop our clinical workforce, managing rostering and compliance, and turn learning from governance, incidents and audits into meaningful service improvements. You will also lead our emergency preparedness arrangements and help maintain the exceptional standards of safety and care for which Devon Air Ambulance is known.

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced, registered healthcare professional with a strong background in pre-hospital, critical or emergency care, alongside proven experience in clinical education and people management. You will be a compassionate and inclusive leader, able to communicate sensitively, make sound decisions and balance a range of educational, workforce and operational priorities. Strong knowledge of clinical governance, excellent organisational skills and a commitment to supporting the wellbeing and development of others will be essential.

The Package

Salary: £60,000 per annum.
