Job summary

Airbus Operations Limited is seeking an Operations Analyst Intern to turn complex operational and engineering data into actionable insights. You will work on performance monitoring, data manipulation, and continuous improvement to maximise fleet availability.

The role offers hands-on experience in a high-stakes aerospace environment with exposure to Power BI, SQL, and Python-based tooling.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a degree program with a quantitative focus.
• Proven ability to manipulate, clean, and structure raw data.
• Hands-on experience building dashboards and data models in Power BI.

Responsibilities

• Track RAF A400M fleet metrics, availability, and maintenance logs to inform decisions.
• Assist in building dashboards to monitor fleet health and KPIs.

About us: The Atlas Integrated Operations Centre (AIOC) serves as the central focal point for the Royal Air Force (RAF) A400M fleet. Every day, the AIOC generates vast volumes of technical, logistical, and fleet data. We are looking for a motivated Operations Analyst Intern to help us unlock the full potential of this information. In this role, you will help convert complex operational and engineering data into actionable insights to maximise aircraft availability and mission readiness. You will focus on three core areas: performance monitoring, data manipulation, and continuous improvement. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in a high‑stakes military aerospace operations environment and directly drive operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Track and analyze live RAF A400M fleet metrics, aircraft availability, and system maintenance logs; Assist in building and updating visual dashboards to track fleet health and operational KPIs; Monitor workflows across Maintenance Planners, Operations and Logistics Personnel to identify turnaround bottlenecks or supply chain delays; Generate regular performance reports to help AIOC leadership make data‑driven decisions.
• Data Manipulation & Process Automation: Clean, structure, and merge extensive, fragmented datasets coming from various engineering, military, and logistics systems; Help automate repetitive, manual data collection and reporting workflows within the centre; Streamline the flow of data among Maintenance Planners, Operations and Logistics Personnel to improve decision‑making speed; Document data workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the operations team.
• Process & Continuous Improvement (CI): Investigate data trends to perform root‑cause analysis on fleet delays or operational bottlenecks; Identify repetitive tasks, data silos, or manual steps across the centre's workflows that can be eliminated; Collaborate closely with Maintenance Planners, Operations and Logistics Personnel to turn data insights into permanent, standardised operational improvements.
• What You Will Develop (The Opportunity): Control Room Agility: Gain confidence working inside a live, fast‑paced operational control room where data shifts rapidly and accuracy is critical; High‑stakes Data Management: Gain rare experience handling complex, sensitive aviation and defence datasets; Cross‑Functional Communication: Learn how to translate technical data insights into operational terms for military and engineering leaders; Continuous Improvement (CI) Mastery: Develop practical skills; In‑Demand Technical Skills: Master data manipulation and automated visualisation using industry‑standard tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL, Python).

Requirements

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Currently enrolled in a degree program; Preferably in fields relating to: Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or Business Administration (quantitative focus); Penultimate student preferred.
• Prior internships not required, but project‑based experience is a strong plus; Demonstrates ability to manipulate, clean, and structure raw data; Experience with Google Workspace (Sheets, Forms, Apps Script for workflow automation); Hands on experience building dashboards, reports, and data models in Power BI; Advanced Excel skills: complex formulas, logical functions, Power Query, pivot tables; Works autonomously, manages time well, and takes ownership of projects; Comfortable speaking up in team settings and presenting findings to stakeholders; Strong analytical thinking: breaks down complex problems into manageable tasks; High attention to detail in data accuracy and visual presentation; Proactively researches and troubleshoots technical issues independently; Communicates data insights and design choices clearly to all team members; Having a UK driving licence and having access to a car would be beneficial.

This Job Request will be allocated to the projected Joint‑Venture scope towards a leading European player in space.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC‑level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
