The Science and Industry Museum, part of National Museums, is seeking an Operations Administrator to join the on-site Operations team in Manchester on a permanent, part-time basis. The role supports daily operations, payroll and purchasing, contractor coordination and records management.
You will work 28 hours across Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, use Microsoft 365 tools, and help ensure safe, efficient and welcoming visitor experiences as part of a large cultural organisation.
The Science and Industry Museum is a place of ideas, innovation and inspiration, telling the stories of the discoveries, technologies and people that have shaped our world. Welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, we combine world-class collections, engaging exhibitions and vibrant public programmes that connect the past, present and future of science and industry.
Behind every great visitor experience is a team of people making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
We're looking for an Operations Administrator to join our Operations team on a permanent, part-time basis, working 28 hours per week across Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Based on site at the Science and Industry Museum, you'll play a central role in helping the museum operate safely, efficiently and effectively every day.
This is a varied role that offers the opportunity to work across many different areas of museum operations. One day you might be supporting payroll or purchasing activity, the next coordinating contractors, organising operational meetings or helping ensure essential services and supplies are in place.
You'll become a trusted point of contact for colleagues, suppliers and contractors, managing important processes, maintaining accurate records and helping keep day-to-day operations on track. In return, you'll gain valuable insight into how a major cultural attraction operates while playing a visible role in supporting our mission to inspire futures.
You'll be someone who enjoys staying organised, pays close attention to detail and takes pride in doing things accurately.
We're keen to hear from candidates who have experience providing administrative support in a busy environment and who are confident managing multiple priorities and deadlines. You'll be comfortable working with spreadsheets, records and financial information, and have good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.
You'll also be a strong communicator who can build positive working relationships with a wide range of people. Whether you're coordinating suppliers, supporting colleagues or maintaining important records, you'll bring a methodical approach, good judgement and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Most importantly, you'll share our commitment to inclusive working and helping create an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued and supported.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome an application even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
Working with a world-leading museum group that offers access to truly unique environments and collections, you'll benefit from the perks listed below, as well as full support for life events such as parental and adoption leave, sickness, and career breaks.
Open for All is one of the Science Museum Group's five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to develop a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation, capable to continue to Inspire Futures.
