Company Description

We’re Together. For over 50 years, we’ve helped thousands of people, businesses and professionals unlock their property ambitions with our common-sense approach to mortgages and secured loans.

We take the time to understand our customers and our door is always open, so we can often help when other lenders can’t or won’t. Based in Cheadle, Cheshire, our 950 colleagues help our customers throughout the UK, backed by the power of a £8 billion loan book.

Job Description

As an Operational Trainer, you will play a key role in supporting the onboarding and development of new colleagues across our Operations teams. This role ensures that new recruits gain the technical knowledge and skills required to achieve competence and thrive in their roles, using a blended approach aligned to the 70:20:10 learning model: practical on-the-job experience, learning through others, and targeted formal training. You will also contribute to the design and delivery of colleague academies and the overarching Together framework, supporting cohort-based recruitment and development. Additionally, the role will monitor the success of new recruits and provide feedback to improve future recruitment and training strategies.

As an Operational Trainer, we are looking for someone to:

  • Deliver engaging and effective onboarding programmes for new colleagues
  • Ensure new recruits understand business processes, systems, and compliance requirements
  • Support individuals in achieving role competence within agreed timeframes
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including Risk, Central Talent and Development, HR, recruitment, operations and business stakeholders, to design and run colleague academies that align to the overarching Together framework
  • Deliver structured training programmes to cohort groups, ensuring formal learning is reinforced through workplace application, coaching, feedback and peer learning in line with the 70:20:10 model
  • Continuously improve content based on feedback, business needs and strategic priorities, avoiding disconnected local solutions or “cottage industries”
  • Track progress and performance of new recruits during onboarding and academy phasesIdentify development needs and provide coaching or additional support where required
  • Provide insights and feedback to the recruitment team to enhance future hiring decisions
  • Work closely with team leaders, HR, and recruitment to align training with business goals
  • Act as a point of contact for training-related queries and support
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and regulatory changes
  • Support colleagues to design and develop learning that contributes to a consistent Together framework, ensuring local activity connects to the wider strategy rather than creating standalone approaches
Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven experience in training delivery, ideally within financial services or a regulated environment
  • Strong understanding of onboarding processes and adult learning principles
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to analyse performance data and provide actionable feedback
  • Experience designing training materials and programmes
  • Collaborative mindset with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to apply the 70:20:10 model when designing learning journeys, balancing experiential, social and formal learning activities
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work across Risk, Central Talent and Development and business teams to maintain alignment with the wider learning strategy

Desirable

  • CIPD Level 3 or above in Learning & Development (or equivalent)
  • Experience with LMS platforms and digital learning tools
  • Coaching or mentoring qualifications
