Job summary

Northern Powergrid is seeking an Operational Technology Systems Engineer to join the Digital & Innovation team. You will maintain and develop critical OT applications underpinning the electricity network and work across ADMS, SCADA and related platforms.

The role focuses on availability, performance, security and resilience, supporting major projects and driving digital transformation in a critical national infrastructure environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC / Level 4 qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • Experience of distribution network management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop the ADMS system.
  • Support ADMS testing for new software releases, patching, lifecycle management and development.
  • Represent OT on major projects involving ADMS and interfaces to other systems.
  • Provide SCADA/Automation support for EHV and HV Networks.
  • Provide daytime operational support for OT systems, including incident resolution.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Operational Technology Systems Engineer to join Northern Powergrid's Digital & Innovation team.

As the company responsible for delivering power to approximately 8 million customers across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, we rely on critical Operational Technology systems to monitor, control and manage the electricity network every second of every day. Our Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) is at the heart of these operations, providing the real-time intelligence and control capabilities that enable our Control Engineers to safely and efficiently operate the network.

As an Operational Technology Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining and developing the critical applications and supporting technologies that underpin the operation of the electricity network. Working across a diverse range of systems, you will help ensure the availability, performance, security and resilience of the platforms used to manage power supplies for millions of homes and businesses. You will play a vital role in delivering system enhancements, supporting major projects, investigating complex technical issues and helping to drive the digital transformation of our operational environment.

Along with a competitive salary of between £53,711 - £73,451 we also offer great benefits such as:

The successful candidate will be subject to SC-level National Security Vetting. Candidates will be required to have lawfully resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years to support security clearance processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the Northern Powergrid Operational Technology team, maintaining and developing the ADMS system.
  • Support ADMS testing for new software releases, patching, lifecycle management and development.
  • Represent Operational Technology on major projects involving ADMS and its interfaces to other business systems
  • Provide SCADA/Automation support for EHV and HV Networks.
  • Provide daytime operational support for Operational Technology systems, including incident resolution, with the possibility of joining the out of hours standby rota.
  • Perform Technical System administration and configuration, including EHV/HV Diagram Maintenance, symbol development, connectivity/safety logic, Hardware support, and outage management.
  • Maintain awareness of OT cyber security and access controls.
  • Support Dispatch, Control Centre and the Contact Centre, maintaining 24/7 system availability.
  • Appreciation of electricity networks and key components.
  • Understanding of Operational Technology environments.
  • Application and Support Skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and part of a Technical team.
  • Ability to manage third party support staff.
  • Take ownership of problems and maintain expected service levels for high profile and critical control systems.
  • Personable with excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Analytical skills for problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Flexibility to manage and adapt to a constantly changing environment.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum HNC / Level 4 qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Experience of distribution network management systems.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience working in OT or highly regulated environments
