About the Role

Based at Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater, with regular visits to other local sites, this role offers you the chance to bring your expertise in Maintenance Practices to an evolving project. Join us as an Operational Development Engineer and play a key role in shaping our digital future, delivering innovative solutions that benefit the UK and drive our organisation's growth and success.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As an Operational Development Engineer, you will support the Maintenance Leads in delivering the Comm-Ops Maintenance programme, ensuring our plant is fit for its operational life. Your technical expertise will be crucial in supporting the wider organisation.

You will oversee contractors to ensure assets meet operational safety and performance requirements. Additionally, you will help shape the next generation of Nuclear Power Stations in the UK, developing and implementing maintenance arrangements for a safe and reliable plant. Your role will also involve providing technical oversight during the construction of HPC, preparing for the handover of equipment from Commissioning and the subsequent day-to-day technical management for 60 years of commercial operation.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

The salary for this role is paying up to £57,000. You’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will provide engineering oversight and technical support to assets pre/post-handover from commissioning. You will chair meetings, review documentation, and assess contractor compliance with care and maintenance arrangements.

When plant issues arise, you will use your technical expertise to troubleshoot and ensure robust corrective actions are in place to resolve issues and prevent recurrence. You will also contribute to the development of standards, procedures, and arrangements that support safe and reliable plant operations.

Your role will involve researching operating experiences from the wider nuclear industry and promoting their application to achieve World Class performance. You will maximise the effective use of your time and abilities, working flexibly within your range of competence and undertaking appropriate training and development to meet the needs of the business.

Who You Are

You are HNC/Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an appropriate Engineering discipline, with proven experience in developing and reviewing technical documentation. You have a proactive and analytical mindset, capable of working independently and taking initiative.

You possess a solid understanding of quality standards and requirements within the UK nuclear regulatory framework or similarly regulated environments. Your exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, along with outstanding organisational and IT skills, set you apart.

You have strong commercial awareness and business acumen, with knowledge of maintenance practices applied in large engineering organisations across the mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines. Previous experience using an Asset Management tool is essential. You must be able to start on the HPC site no later than June 2025.
