Job summary

BMR Solutions Ltd is recruiting an Operational Buyer – Temporary to join a leading high-technology engineering and manufacturing business based in Bristol.

Reporting to the Senior Buyer, you will manage day-to-day procurement, raise POs, expedite, negotiate with suppliers, and support New Product Introduction within a complex manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years' experience in procurement or purchasing.
• Strong negotiation and commercial awareness.
• Experience in engineering/manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting the sourcing side of New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Good understanding of MRP systems and operational purchasing processes.

Responsibilities

• Raise purchase orders and manage procurement through multiple channels.
• Expedite, defer, and cancel open order lines in response to MRP messages.
• Issue RFQs, manage drawings, analyse supplier quotations, and set replenishment profiles.
• Resolve delivery, quality, invoice and production shortage issues.
• Monitor supplier performance against delivery, cost and quality targets.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities via benchmarking and value engineering.
• Collaborate with Engineering on obsolete and replacement parts.
• Raise temporary permits, concessions and engineering changes when needed.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support sourcing for New Product Introduction and continuous improvement projects.

BMR Solutions are currently recruiting for an Operational Buyer – Temporary to join a leading high-technology engineering and manufacturing business based in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to take responsibility for supplier performance across a portfolio of suppliers, ensuring on-time delivery, cost and quality targets are achieved within a complex manufacturing environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational procurement activities across your assigned supplier portfolio. You will work closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders including Engineering, Planning, Production and Quality to resolve issues and maintain a reliable supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

• Raise purchase orders through various methods and procurement channels.
• React to MRP system messages, including expediting, deferring and cancelling open order lines.
• Issue RFQs, manage drawing releases, analyse supplier quotations and establish new part replenishment profiles.
• Resolve issues relating to delivery accuracy, quality rejects, invoice queries, overdue orders and production shortages.
• Monitor and improve supplier performance against delivery, cost and quality objectives.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through benchmarking, value engineering and optimisation of replenishment methods.
• Work closely with Engineering to manage obsolete and replacement parts.
• Raise temporary permits, concessions and engineering changes where required.
• Develop effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
• Support sourcing activity associated with New Product Introduction, outsourcing and continuous improvement projects.

About You

The successful Operational Buyer will ideally have:

• 2–3 years' experience within a procurement or purchasing environment.
• Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
• Good interpersonal and team-working skills.
• A proven track record of achieving savings and delivery targets.
• Experience working within a complex engineering or manufacturing environment.
• The ability to communicate professionally and confidently with internal customers and suppliers.
• A resourceful, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently.
• Experience supporting the sourcing side of New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Experience of outsourcing and Continuous Improvement projects.
• Good understanding of MRP systems and operational purchasing processes.
