Job summary

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate Publisher to manage open access journals in the microbiology and oncology portfolios. Reporting to an Executive Publisher, you will guide portfolio strategy, growth, and relationships with Editors, EiCs, EBMs, and Societies.

You will lead annual development plans, negotiate contracts, and drive data-informed decisions to maximise journal performance while supporting authors and the scholarly community.

Qualifications

• Educated to bachelor’s degree level or equivalent, preferably in a relevant field of study (life, biomedical or health sciences)
• Resourceful and proactive approach in dealing with problems and queries, and the ability to adapt quickly to change
• Excellent communication (verbal and written)
• Persuasion and influencing skills including diplomacy and assertiveness
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team
• Ability to work on your own initiative and independently
• Strong time management and organisational skills; ability to take ownership of tasks and meet deadlines
• Experience of developing and maintaining productive relations with academic and industry researchers
• Strong technical skills with a sharp attention for detail
• Willingness to travel for the role occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Drive results through portfolio development and management with accountability
• Grow and develop a group of open access journals; devise and implement annual development plans
• Manage annual targets for submission, publication and transfer volumes and turnaround times
• Deliver best-in-class author experience and engage Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, and Societies
• Navigate changing priorities and manage ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
• Resolve pre- and post-publication issues; ensure ethics and consent considerations are addressed
• Utilise data analytics to support data-driven decisions and strategic planning
• Manage contract negotiations with external parties and understand financial statements and forecasting
• Collaborate with colleagues, researchers, and editors; attend meetings as needed
• Keep up to date with changes in research and publishing industry
