Job summary

Biffa is seeking a Site Chemist for our Burscough site to oversee daily chemical testing and analysis, ensure regulatory compliance, and support waste treatment operations. The role emphasizes safety, accurate record-keeping, and service to internal and external customers.

You will perform laboratory and site-based analyses, coordinate with operations, and help select appropriate treatment methods while maintaining high environmental standards.

Qualifications

• HNC (or equivalent) is required.
• Outdoor working in all weathers.
• Continued support and ongoing training.
• Experience managing a mixed skills team in a busy environment.
• Computer literate/ MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Carry out laboratory and site-based chemical analysis to support waste treatment and disposal.
• Ensure compliance with permits, licences and discharge consents by monitoring data.
• Assess treatment methods for incoming waste streams per site capability.
• Support customer service with technical input to quotations and bookings.
• Maintain accurate bay logs and records for EA/HSE compliance.
• Assist in site audits, inspections, and sampling activities.
• Promote safe working practices and drive continuous safety improvements.
• Identify opportunities to improve site efficiency and reduce non-value activities.
